As you can see in my previous blog entry “The Sound of Silence” a significant amount of my time during the asset creation portion of this project was spent on Audio editing. I did manage to create some 3D assets for my game but completely glossed over the reasons for my design choices.

When i started to create Emotion in Motion i decided to make the missiles the player would destroy based off one of Kandinsky's other works. I felt as though it would give the player a greater understanding of the meaning behind Kandinsky’s work and feel more in tune with his creative process as they were creating along with him. Once i got working in 3DS Max and spent almost an entire lesson of my class time fiddling with the various shapes which came together to form the missile i exported it into unity.

Although the missile looked exactly how i wanted it to, in game it looked absolutely horrible. Looking at the missile standing up in the picture below you can see all the various parts of its structures and its non streamline shape. When running with this design i didn’t think to imagine how the missile would look flying directly at you in first person. When i actually got around to testing out how the missile looked in Unity i realised all the hard work i had done in tweaking the different shaped beneath the tip of the missile was for nothing as all you could see was the squashed sphere with a smaller version of it on top. I was extremely disappointed to realise this but ended up focusing on other aspects of the project such as getting the missiles themselves moving and just used a purple capsule primitive in Unity to test with.

Once i had the function of the missiles under control i was able to take a second run at my Missile Asset problem. I decided to go back and look at the research i had done on Kandinsky was reminded of his respect for music and how “Kandinsky viewed music as the most transcendent form of non-objective art …..and believed musicians could evoke images in listeners' minds merely with sounds.” http://www.theartstory.org/artist-kandinsky-wassily.htm

This prompted me to create multiple different Musical Notes in 3D as the missiles, i was really happy i ended up going this route as it created variety for the player and also added challenge as they had different hit boxes attached to them.
