Week 4
What have I accomplished this week as a developer?
This week was a weird one, starting a new project especially a team one took lots of time to get things organized without a lot of actual things to show for it. I am really excited to be working in the team I was put into as i've worked with both members previously and although not all outcomes went to plan I know that together we could make something amazing. We were also lucky enough to have gotten a audio client who had a clear vision yet also trusted our game design knowledge and granted us a degree of creative freedom. I did get lots of research done this week in preparation of our project and have noted many opportunities in the project to continue my theme of learning a new skill every project up to this point. The one thing that was a really positive outcome from this otherwise pretty bland week was receiving an email from a Studio 3 audio student who heard about the axe game I am developing. One of my peers put my project forward as something worth collaborating on and such the student contacted me to try and get on board. After having a meeting on Friday I have got a few weeks to finish it up before the audio student will compose the background track which is really exciting. Keep an eye out for upcoming blogs on the side game as now with a bit of a deadline I will attempt to really smash it out.

What have I learned this week about development and being a developer?
There has only been one other occasion in my student career that I have had the opportunity to work with a client. This was during my second trimester of study at SAE in the Production class, this was where we were tasked with making a Tower Defence Game over a series of weeks while meeting with a client in a professional manner to show our progression. Now in Studio 2 our latest project has tasked us with making an Interactive MusicVideoGame which is dictated by a Audio student client. My first attempt back in production only went okay so this time I was really looking to make a good impression. Although we were unable to meet in class early in the week our client was able to meet us after his studies on friday morning where we were able to breakdown his vision and bring our game design skills to the project. We were fortunate enough to get a client with a really clear vision and although that seems like it would make the project easy I beg to differ. The biggest part i've learned from the experience so far is as the Audio student has such a clear vision we need to nurture and not stray too far from his concept otherwise the product might not be as good and certainly won’t represent the image he is going for. After hearing the track I immediately had a few different ideas come to mind but in the end I didn’t even raise them with the client as he knew exactly what he wanted. Thankfully as well the product he wants to obtain at the end of the project will entail many skills that the team already have which will give us a great chance at reaching the desired outcome. Our client will be having weekly meetings which are going to be extremely important in staying on track to completing our goal and will be a great creative compass to make sure we are heading in the right direction.
